College Catalog 101:
A "Course" for Students and Faculty Alike
Rhine

We know the college catalog governs
everything from admission to
graduation...but do students? Do faculty?
Do these stakeholders  know how
to find our catalog at all, let alone the policies and
procedures that especially affect them?
An intentional institutional effort to publicize
the catalog and encourage its use may help reduce
confusion and unpleasant surprises.
Learn about LCC's "College Catalog 101"
efforts, and brainstorm for even more!

Hold-Up! How to transform student holds.
Althmuehl

Student holds are a common (but blunt) instrument
for coercing student behavior. But years of
inattention by countless departments
often results in a system which erects many
unnecessary and unintended barriers, while still
failing to achieve its target: student action.
Learn about Oakland University's examination
and transformation of student holds, and how
you can apply the same lessons and
opportunities at your own institution.

Building Social Capital into
Your Recruitment and Retention Strategic
Plans for Non-Traditional College Students
Danube

Research has shown that nontraditional
college students feel socially isolated
from their main campus counterparts,
hence impacting student success. Through
a reorganization of CMU's Innovation and Online,
Leadership evaluated social capital in
their recruitment and retention strategy
to cultivate connections in both the
virtual environment and expansion into
new environments to increase student
recruitment and retention across CMU
Online Programs. During this presentation,
new and innovative methods to recruit
and retain nontraditional
students to higher education will be reviewed.

Customer Service Roundtable: Customer Service Changes in the time of COVID
Althmuehl

We hope to facilitate a discussion about how customer service practices have changed over the past two-plus years since the COVID pandemic started. Here are some of the questions that might be worth exploring: How did schools adapt to the new reality? Are there practices that you plan to keep? How has staffing changed? Where are you allocating more resources to now? How will things change as we move towards a post-COVID situation?

College Credit for Prior Learning
Mosel

When you think of prior learning do you think of some correspondence school where you send them some money and a few papers, and they send you a degree?  That is NOT how you should do Prior Learning.  It is possible to do Prior Learning Credit well and maintain your academic standards.  This seminar will cover the basics on how to use ACE and CAEL standards to ensure that you are giving credit for college level learning.
