A Very Short Article
Written on a Windy April Day
It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to your new Newsletter Editor, Sue Beerbower. Sue is from Jackson Community College. She is zippy and peppy and has terrific ideas and is creative and will be a wonderful shepherd of this publication which I had so much fun with for a dozen years or so. Welcome her with open arms. Support her effort. She has generously asked me to write an article every now and then. I look forward to that, but for this issue I just want to thank everybody for the birthday greeting at the conference last November. What a wonderful surprise. I am finding that 60 is quite a cool place to be. Oh, by the way, my son Tim (the middle one) is getting married on May 15. One down, two to go.

Jim Bolthouse Remembered
The MACRAO organization has suffered the loss of a dedicated veteran admissions recruiter. James “Jim” H. Bolthouse passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 1, 1998. Jim served his profession and Ferris State University for 30 years as an admissions counselor.
Jim was born on April 12, 1940, in Grand Haven, Michigan and graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1958. He married Donna S. Green in 1962 and they celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary on August 18, 1998. Jim received his BS in education and MA in guidance and counseling from Western Michigan University. He was employed with Plainwell Community Schools, Mona Shores School District and Grand Valley State University. In 1968, he began his 30-year career with Ferris State University as an admission counselor.
Jim actively served on many professional committees (MACRAO) and organizations on campus at Ferris. He was also a member at the Fellowship Christian Reformed Church in Big Rapids. Jim was an avid sportsman with a passion for hunting and fishing. He enjoyed many outdoor activities with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife Donna: three children, Scott J. (Gwen) Bolthouse of Holland, Julie R. (Jeff) Mass of Clawson, and Amy S. Bolthouse of Ann Arbor. He is also survived by four grandchildren, a brother, a sister and several nieces and nephews. Jim is also sadly missed by the Ferris State admissions team.
Memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be sent to the Fellowship of Christian Students, a christian outreach program for Ferris students, at 407 Perry Street, Big Rapids, Michigan 49307.

On April 19, the Michigan Virtual University launched a pilot project of 32 course offerings to be made available by 12 member institutions for the summer semester. The slate of offerings, coordinated by the Michigan Community College Virtual learning Collaborative (MCCVLC), includes credit-bearing courses, many of which are transferable to four-year instituions.
