No

Montcalm CC
Yes
10 days for fall/winter

Some instructors close courses after 1-2 meetings. Rationale is that some courses are too difficult to catch up in.

Muskegon CC

N/A
No
In the past we have allowed students to join late, however, this semester we will not allow students to join late.
A community college in Ohio convinced us that joining late invites failure, and they seem to be right.
Schoolcraft CC
Yes
5 to 7 days from the start of the term.
No
Check out the MACRAO tuition & fees report
Monroe CC
Yes
Students may register if the class has met 1 time.
Any late authorizations come directly from the Dean and the Instructor.
No
Very few complaints from faculty because they must approve late reg.
Grand Rapids CC
Yes
Students may register if the class has met 1 time.
No
Exceptions are very rare (i.e. students dont get into courses that have met more than 1 time)
Henry Ford CC
Yes
Late registration without faculty consent...
1st week of the semester for all sections that begin the week of the semester. Seven days from the start of any section that does not start the first week of the semester.
Late registration with faculty consent... forever.
No
This semester new rule. For all remedial sections no registration without faculty consent after the first section meeting. This worked really well. I suspect faculty might consider extending this to all sections. (Like Sinclair CC).
Westshore CC
Yes
One week into semester.
Second week drop only, add with written permission of instructor and instructional dean.
No
We do not advertise this second week add option.
Glen Oaks CC
Yes
As soon as classes begin, we call it Add/Drop(change of schedule period). It is registration up to a class begins...
We allow students to "add or change their schedule" for approximately the first week after classes start or if a one night a week course has only met once.
We sometimes allow them up to the first 10% of the semester (approximately 10-11 days) with special permission or special circumstances.
No
At this time, we do not. We use to not refund $10 if a student withdrew after classes started and spent more time administratively defending the policy and collecting the money than what it was worth.
Lake Michigan CC
Yes
Normally, the end of the 1st week after classes begin.
No
Exceptions are made with Deans or VPs signature.
Mott CC
Yes
One week after start of classes.
No
Previously did charge a fee of $25 but dropped it years ago.
Late registration is supposed to be for those that are already enrolled but the reality is that students often register for the first time during drop/add.
Oakland CC
No
Will allow an initial registration into a section which has not yet met during our period of Schedule Adjustment (the first week of classes) for potential students walking in off the street.
No
We find it an interesting compromise between academic integrity and student service.
