MACRAO Committee Membership

Committees are the heart and soul of MACRAO. They contribute to the development of our
organization and its members. Committee membership offers many benefits: promoting our organization, professional development,
and statewide networking opportunities.
How do I join a committee?
Complete a
Committee Application Form.
You may list one or more committees that interest you, and return the form to the name provided.
You will be placed on a committee, and notified of your membership and the name of your committee chair.
Please note that it is important for committees to represent a range of colleges and universities, which affects
how committees are assigned.
Current committees include:
- Admissions Practices and Enrollment Management
Assists in promoting an understanding of the institutional enrollment management concept. Develops and promotes effective techniques to predict outcomes and assess results.
- College Articulation
Promotes communication and articulation between postsecondary educational institutions, monitors articulation agreements and addresses specialized problems encountered by students in the transfer of credit. This committee sponsors the Articulation Conference normally held in June, promotes the MACRAO transfer agreement, distributes the Michigan Uniform Guest Application, and publishes the Guide for Transfer Students. They also sponsor an award for the best transfer program that is given at the MACRAO Annual Conference.
- College Day/Night Programs
Promotes close communication between secondary schools and colleges and represents the association in all aspects of college day/night programs in Michigan. These include the approved college day/night guidelines, evaluations and calendar of events. Establishes and promotes the annual approved college day/night calendar and serves as liaison with MASSP and MACAC.
- Data and Technology
To facilitate the ethical and effective utilization of technology and data. This includes: serve as the primary forum in which those interested in data acquisition, processing, analysis and interpretation and dissemination can meet to discuss issues and concerns, maintain the MACRAO website as infrastructure to support data gathering, analysis and reporting, and inform members of existing and developing trends in technology, hardware and software.
- Equal Educational Opportunity
To encourage and promote equal educational opportunities in higher education for all, especially the economically and educationally disadvantaged. Provides recognition awards to Michigan colleges/universities for outstanding programs.
- Legislative Update Ad Hoc Committee
This committee is responsible for keeping the membership updated on legislative issues that impact higher education. This includes regular updates through the monthly electronic newsletters and sponsoring other events pertaining to legislative issues.
- Professional Development
Undertakes projects assigned by the Executive Committee. Identifies and undertakes activities and professional development opportunities that complement or extend beyond the normal range of the other standing committees (i.e., projects focusing attention on office organizations and management, special media projects and publications).
- Registrar’s Practices
Undertakes projects concerned with improved registration techniques, grading policies and practices, and the maintenance of adequate and accurate records, suggests procedures for the quality and production of transcripts as well as to establish standards for all areas of academic records management: security storage, retention, retrieval, generation, recording and maintenance. Sponsors the Annual Registrars Drive-In Exchange, publishes "What is an Official Transcript" Brochure and Publishes the "Family Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Guidelines for Michigan Colleges and Universities" brochure.
- Secondary Schools/College Relations
Promotes the in-service training and professional development of admissions personnel on relevant issues, projects and activities. Promotes communication and articulation between secondary schools and colleges in Michigan. Sponsors New Professional Workshop and produces the Directory of Michigan Secondary Schools.
- Local Arrangements Committee
The Local Arrangements Committee (LAC) is responsible for the coordination, publicity and hosting of the annual conference. The President-Elect is responsible for assembling this team each year. Committee members will serve a one-year term and will be asked to perform a variety of tasks relating to the annual conference.
How long is the commitment?
Committee members serve a three year term.
What are the responsibilities of committee membership?
There are several requirements to be aware of:
- Attend committee meetings set by your committee chair.
- Assist your committee in developing innovative and useful session proposals for the annual conference. Committees can present individual sessions, or draw on the expertise of area leaders in the field.
- Complete special tasks for any event sponsored by your committee.
Are there opportunities for leadership development?
Yes, each committee has a chair and a co-chair (who becomes the chair the following year). Also, committee membership and leadership are taken into consideration during the nomination process for executive committee positions.
