Guidelines for Honorary Membership
Honorary membership
"Individuals no longer eligible for active membership in MACRAO may be recommended to the Executive Committee
for honorary membership by any representative of an institutional member. The Executive Committee will elect to
honorary membership those nominees deemed to have given significant service to the Association." (MACRAO Constitution,
Article III, Section 1c, October 1996)
Selection Guidelines
All past presidents of the Association, who meet the constitutional criteria, will be immediately presented to
the Executive Committee for election.
The Executive Committee will give consideration to other nominees who have given significant service to the Association.
Generally, the Executive Committee should be influenced by more than length of service upon retirement. (See guidelines
for Retirement Recognition.) Nominees should be widely recognized as leaders who have distinguished themselves through
continuous active service on committees, participation in successful workshops and association projects, and other
noteworthy accomplishments for the Association. Their accomplishments should be outlined for review by the Executive
Committee, and should accompany the recommendation for honorary membership.
Recognition
New, honorary members should receive special recognition at the next available annual meeting of the Association,
and in the next available Association newsletter. Honorary members should receive regular Association newsletters,
and an invitation to be a guest at the annual association meeting banquet. The names of all honorary members will be
included in the annual MACRAO membership directory.
